Our Story

“Farming is a profession of hope. It is faith in the future. A belief that what you are doing will make a difference.” – Unknown

We are a women and veteran owned business. Our business stems from the love of our farm, the things we produce from it, and the animals that live on it. Our Brands: Little Long Ears Provisions, TC Spirit Donkeys, Old Mission Ciders, and Harpers Ridge Farm. We started our farm, Harpers Ridge, on Old Mission Peninsula in 2016 and planted our first apple tree in 2017. Today we have over 800 fruit trees. We believe in healthy soil, compost, companion plantings, and a special eco system supported by bees, chickens, donkeys, sheep, guinea hens, ducks and geese.

We are a certified USDA Organic farm, and hold MDARD and MLCC licenses. 1% of our gross sales go to the Grand Traverse Land Conservancy and other charities.

We produce a single wine from our vineyard where we grow Pinot Gris grapes. We also produce one hard cider a year called Old Mission Ciders – “the Kitchen Sink”, which is a blend of all our cider apples and will be completely different every year. Our main business brand is Little Long Ears Provisions which focuses on extending the wine/cider making process into aged vinegars. We currently have apple cider vinegar, pear vinegar, Fire Cider vinegar, beer malt vinegar, and Michigan cherry vinegar. On deck, we will have small batches of red wine, white wine, champagne, black garlic, blackberry and red raspberry vinegars. When people think of us, and vinegar in general, we would like to say that it makes your food taste better. Besides the health benefits of vinegar like probiotics, antioxidants, and cholesterol/blood-sugar control; vinegar is the best way to add more diverse and complex flavors to almost any dish. Most chefs would agree that it is their condiment of choice.

We recently released our all natural wellness shot Donkey Fuel! It’s the perfect blend of our Fire Cider Vinegar, tart cherry concentrate, and hydrogen water.

We are also experimenting with growing Arbequinia Spanish Olive Trees in our greenhouse to produce a Michigan extra virgin olive oil.

Finally, TC Spirit Donkeys… Northern Michigans premier mini donkey party rental for weddings and event entertainment!

We work hard, but the thing we are most proud of is not something we did, but how our hometown community of Traverse City and Northern Michigan has embraced us (and the many other small businesses out there).

We wouldn’t be where we are without the retailers who took a chance on us and the other small businesses we cross pollinate with, our supporting farmers, and of course the customers who spend their hard-earned money on our products and services.

Fermented & Poured

Our farm was our side-hustle – for me it still is! Both of us worked in the corporate world and we wanted something more… not only for ourselves; but also for our now 7 year old daughter too. We started by planting some cherry trees and grapes – because what else would you grow in the Traverse City area?! We then planted a big market garden and more trees, this time apple and pear. Jeff had been making beer and alcohol for a long time, and started experimenting with apples, pears and grapes. In 2018, we began to do farmers markets, art and craft shows. We quickly determined that there were better market garden farmers out there than us, so how could we monetize our investments in the vineyard and orchard? By accident we created some vinegar which tasted really good! And let me just say I was never a vinegar fan…NEVER; but this was different! The vinegar was full of flavor, it smelled like apples and didn’t punch me in the back of the throat when sipped. So we pivoted and focused on non-perishable and shelf stable products. In parallel, we got our wine making license and bought a production facility that is licensed to by the department of agriculture and the liquor control division. Making quality vinegar, requires quality alcohol – so being skilled in one, definitely helps the other.
